International Network of Spinal Cord Injury Nurses

Middle East & North Africa Spinal Cord Injury Network

Event Date: April 2019

Middle East North Africa Spinal Cord Injury Network-MENASCI have the specific tracks and addressing the clinical care as well as increasing awareness and improving prevention of SCI complications.
The concept of Rehabilitation Multi Displinary Team (MDT) is very important, and is not yet fully established in the MENA region countries. Many members who are responsible for the care of SCI patients are not participating in the MDT team. In addition, many medical specialties are trying to take the role of specialized doctors and Rehabilitation MDT team in Spinal Cord injury (SCI) by delaying the referral of their patients, or not refering them at all. Our regional countries should strengthen the specialty through opening new channels of training outside the country, and by providing continuous medical education in various disciplines for doctors and allied professional working in the field.
In order to improve this specialty, appropriate legislation between the work of doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals should be implemented.

In order to achieve this goal, the #MENASCI network was established in Amman, Jordan 2017 during the Pan Arab Rehabilitation Congress and organized its first meeting on the occasion of the national day of persons with disability in Morocco in March, 2019 under the theme “Together for Better Management of Spinal Cord Injury in the MENA Region”.
