Biography:

Debbie Green has a longstanding career in the field of SCI Nursing having worked as a senior nurse at the National Spinal Injury Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital for 25 years. The past two years she, with her colleague, has been developing the nursing service of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), the UK’s leading SCI charity, which supports patients / clients and care teams in non-specialist centres.  The service provides assessment and written treatment plans in order to ensure that the client is receiving care appropriate to their needs. Education of patients and care teams is a major part of their role.

Fiona Stephenson has over 30 years of nursing experience and found her passion in spinal cord injury (SCI) nursing care utilising her professional and life skills. Fiona volunteers regularly to provide international healthcare capacity building in SCI care. Fiona is a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing and has been an active member of the International Spinal Cord Society on the Education, Disaster and Nurse Committees. She was instrumental in creating/establishing the first SCI unit in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, created/established a successful SCI rehabilitation clinic and has trained many nurses in SCI care there as well as another Low & Middle Income Countries.  Fiona deployed following the Nepal earthquake in 2015 providing specialist support to Nepals’ only SCI centre (SIRC). She remains a member of the UK Governments’ Emergency Medical Team. Fiona is co-founder of the Haiti SCI Working Group www.haitisci.org and The International Network of SCI Nurses: www.scinurse.org . She was a core member of the WHO Rehabilitation minimum standards & SCI Specialist Cell working groups and won the UK Cavell Nurses Trust “International Impact” Award. Fiona was a Nurse of the Year finalist in the UK Nursing Times Awards 2017 and awarded the ‘Points of Light’ by the UK Prime Minister in 2018 for her global voluntary contributions relating to spinal cord injury. Fiona is a founding member of the African SCI Network (AFSCIN) and Middle East and North Africa SCI Network (MENASCI). Fiona will be coordinating the first SCI Nurse MOOC (date to be confirmed).
